Music while you wash!

For years now, people have been taking their portable radios into their bathrooms.
The bathroom is a nice relaxing environment where you can listen to the morning news before starting your day. There's also no better way to finish a hard day than to take a long soak with a glass of wine and some classic hits.

Today, modern technology has made it possible to listen to your Mp3 players music or computer music including your favourite radio stations, and music services like Napster, anywhere in your home using digital music systems like Sonos. Now there's no need to move a portable radio from room to room, or to turn the lounge Hi-Fi up full blast! Music while you wash has leapt into the 21st Century.

After taking the plunge (no pun intended) to install a music system in the bathroom the main factor is where the speakers are to be located and what speakers to use in a potentially damp environment.

Waterproof speakers are the only speakers to use in a bathroom if they are located in an area where they could get wet. Some manufactures make speakers that are installed in the wall tiles of your shower, these are fully waterproof but here in the UK we are plagued with hard water, which can deposit quickly on the speakers and quickly deteriorate sound quality.

The best option for bathroom speakers in the UK is to use ceiling speakers. There are many ceiling speakers available in the UK such as these Ceiling Speakers but it is still important that the speakers are at least rated as "vapour resistant". Some ceiling speakers still use paper cone technology which means the main drive unit "The Cone" is made of a coated paper which obviously doesn't like getting wet!

Also the other thing to look out for when choosing the right ceiling speakers for your bathroom is that most UK bathrooms tend to be quite small (the average being around 6 feet by 8 feet), with lots of recessed lighting, extractor fans, etc mounted in the ceiling. This can make fitting in a pair of speakers difficult.
To get round this problem a few manufacturers including: SpeakerCraft, Emphasys, Polk, and Monitor Audio have introduced a single stereo speaker into their ranges.
This is basically a single speaker housing with two tweeters and a dual voice coil main driving giving stereo sound from one speaker.
